Abstract

This study was talking about students’ reading comprehension in recount text of VIII of SMP N 2 Batang Angkola. Most of students could not answer the question about text. The students have problems to determine generic structure, main idea and concluding sentence. This was caused by internal and external factors of the students. Internal factor came from the student themselves. External factors come from environment. This purpose of the research was reveal the students’ reading comprehension in recount text and students’ problems in studying recount text. This research was conducted by qualitative research by using descriptive method because the researcher discussed, analyzed and found the phenomena which occured naturally. The participant of this research was students of grade VIII C totally 21 students. This research used observation, test and interview as instruments. Observation used to know students’ comprehension in recount text before and after research, test used to students’reading comprehension in identifying main idea, generic structure, concluding sentence and took synonymy of vocabulary in context. Interview used to know the problem in reading comprehension of recount text . After analyzing the data, the researcher found the students’ reading comprehension in recount text as follow: Most of students could not identify main idea, generic structure, concluding sentence and synonymy of vocabulary. From explanation above students’ comprehension in recount text was lack comprehension. The problem that faced by students in reading comprehension that the students could not read English text, the students were difficult to know the meaning of the text because students did not have dictionary to translate the text
