Abstract

This research focused on the The Effect of Using Outlining Technique on Students’ Writing Descriptive Text Ability at X Grade of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan. The students’ problems in writing were: 1) Students were lack of vocabulary ; 2) Students grammatically errors ; 3) Students were difficult to organize the text. Beside the students’ problem, teacher’s technique also became a problem in learning writing descriptive text. The teacher did not use suitable technique in teaching writing descriptive text. The purpose of this research was to examine whether there was significant effect of using Outlining technique on students’ writing descriptive text ability at X grade of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan.. The method used in this research was experimental research. Two classes were chosen as the sample. They were X MIA 1 as the control class that consisted of 40 students and X MIA 2 as the experimental class that consisted of 40 students. It was taken after conducting normality and homogeneity test. The data was derived from pre-test and post-test. To measure the data, the researcher used t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that mean score of experimental class after using Outlining Technique was higher than control class. Mean score of experimental class before using Outlining technique was 59.34 and mean score after using Outlining tehnique was 79.00. Meanwhile, the mean score of control class in pre-test was 63.7 and in post-test was 72.48. Besides it, the score of tcount was higher than ttable (3.18>2.00). It meant that the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was a significant effect of using Outlining technique on students’ writing descriptive text ability at X grade of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan.
