Abstract
This study aimed at improving students’ speaking ability using story telling at MTS N 2 Padangsidimpuan. The objective of this study is to find whether students’ speaking ability improved if it would be taught by using story telling. To solve the problems, the researcher conducted classroom action research (CAR) by implementing story telling. The researcher applied two cycles in this research. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The participant of this study was one class consisted of to 30 students. The instrument of collecting the data the researcher used speaking test, observation sheet and document. The research result showed the progressive mean of the students the first meeting was 53 second meeting was 57.50 third meeting was 70 and the fourth meeting was 86.66. So, the mean in the second cycle was higher than the first cycle. The data indicated that the students’ got improvement. It is indicate that the application of story telling technique improves students’ speaking ability. The conclusion, story telling could improve students’ speaking ability at MTS N 2 Padangsidimpuan. Hopefully, the research result could be positive input for other researchers and teachers to conduct the research, particularly of speaking issue
