Abstract

Learning the interpretation of the Qur'an is one of the main learning in an Islamic boarding school, because through the study of interpretation, students can understand the meaning and content of the Qur'an in depth and comprehensively. Babussalam Basilam Baru Islamic Boarding School is one of the Islamic boarding schools that makes the study of interpretation a main subject. The interpretation they use is the book Tafsir Jalalain. The problem of this research stems from the observation that some students have difficulty in understanding the interpretation material, while the level of teacher success in teaching can basically be measured by the level of student understanding of the material being taught. Similarly, with the study of interpretation, its simple success is characterized by students being able to understand the meaning in the interpretation, as well as being able to explain the laws and rules that exist in giving harakat and also the meaning in the interpretation. However, the reality in the field is different. This research was conducted in the form of field research, with a descriptive qualitative approach applied through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data sources included male and female students, Islamic Boarding School Foundations, Islamic Boarding School Directors, and religious leaders in Basilam Baru Village. The research results indicate that the students' challenges in learning tafsir include several issues, including low Arabic language proficiency. This low Arabic language proficiency is a major problem in tafsir learning because Jalalain tafsir is characterized entirely in Arabic. Furthermore, mastery of the basic sciences of grammar (nahwu) and grammar (sharaf) is also crucial, as learning Jalalain tafsir is crucial for understanding the structure of each Arabic sentence. Other challenges include a lack of time and a lack of motivation and willingness among students to participate in tafsir learning. Furthermore, the material delivery method is too fast and monotonous, causing students to become bored and lazy. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the quality of tafsir learning by strengthening Arabic language proficiency, increasing the time for tafsir lessons, and strengthening the basic sciences of grammar (nahwu) and grammar (sharaf) through additional activities and the development of more creative methods by tafsir teachers to increase students' listening interest
