Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve students’ achievement in reading comprehension through Know-Want-Learn Strategy at XI grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Tapanuli Selatan. This research employed classroom action research (CAR). The researcher used two cycles and each cycle consisted of two meetings in English learning. The subjects of this study were the students at the grade XI Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Tapanuli Selatan. There are 33 students as the participant and also collaborated with the English teacher. The researcher purposed to describe the improvement students’ reading comprehension by collecting data through test and observation. In this research, researcher focused on the application of Know-Want-Learn Strategy. The researcher found in the first cycle students’ reading comprehension mean score 57.27 (9.09%). It was indicated that students still low in reading comprehension. The second cycle students’ reading comprehension mean score was 75.00 (63.63%). Based on the classroom action research, it could be concluded that Know-Want-Learn (K-W-L) Strategy improved students’ reading comprehension in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Tapanuli Selatan. Finally, the novelty of this research took a look from the place, and the way of analyzing the data.
