Abstract

Focus of this research is on the factors that support household harmony in amalgamated marriages in Southeast Padangsidimpuan City, this research aims to find out the impact of amalgamation marriage.Interested this study because amalgamation marriages are prone to conflict and divorce due to cultural differences such as values, customs, beliefs, traditions, lifestyles, and behaviors in each couple and family members of amalgamation marriages. However, different facts were found in the amalgamated marriages of Batak, Javanese, and Minang tribes who remained in maintaining their marriages. This research was conducted on marriage partners who married different tribes, namely between Batak and Javanese, Batak and Minang. With the amalgamation of marriage, it is hoped that it can enrich the culture and can also be used as a lesson for individuals who will carry out the marriage. So researcher is interested in researching this thesis with the title “An Analysis of Amalgamated Marriage Between Batak, Minang, and Javaethnic In Creating Household Harmony (Case Study In Palopat Pijorkoling, Southeast Padangsidimpuan District, Padangsidimpuan City )”. The researcher analyzed the reality of this situation. To analyze this reality, researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, data collection techniques in this study through primary data, namely data obtained through observation, and in-depth interviews, and secondary data, namely data obtained through scientific journals, books, theses, and other articles that read by the researcher. The result showed that domestic harmony in amalgamation marriage is a merger between Batak with Java ethnic, Batak with Minang is a form of adjustment in behavior, language, and environment as well as participation in customary traditions formed through interactions between amalgamation couples, which are obtained in the form of openness and tolerance between couples who have different ethnicities and cultures. The amalgamation of Batak, Javanese, and Minang ethnicities in their adjustment can immerse themselves in their respective cultures so that the relationships that exist between small families and extended families are harmonious.
