Abstract

This research focuses on phrasal verb in the novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway. By knowing it, readers will more easily understand the meaning and conceive lots of vocabulary about phrasal verb from the novel. The formulation problems that should be answered in this research were: 1) What types of phrasal verb are found in the Novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway? 2) What is dominant type of phrasal verb applied in the Novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway? The purpose of this research were supposed to know the types of phrasal verb in the novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway and to know which most dominant types that found in the novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was the novel Earth by Tere Liye Translated by Gill Westaway, while the object of this research was phrasal verb in the novel. This research had the following procedures in collecting data: the researcher read the novel, made a listed of the data of phrasal verb by those types and tabulating all types of phrasal verb found in the novel. The analysis of the data divided into six stages: collecting, identifying, confirming, classifying, categorizing, and analyzing. The result of the research denoted that there were 3 types of phrasal verb in the novel. Totals in phrasal verb that were found in 3 types were 83 phrasal verbs. The most dominant type of phrasal verb that found in the novel is form verb + preposition = 35 phrasal verb. While verb + adverb = 23 phrasal verb, and verb + adverb + preposition = 25 phrasal verb which existed in the novel
