Abstract

This study focuses on the vowels interfered by students students vowels accuracy at English Department State Islamic University Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan. The study only focused in 13 vowels or short and long vowels. There are several factors faced by students as a cause of students vowels accuracy in pronouncing English words they are, : 1) Where they live.2) Students Motivation.3) School area.4) and Different sound and symbol. The objective of this research was to describe student’s vowels accuracy in pronouncing English words and explain factors that influence students’ vowels accuracy in pronouncing English vowels. Solving those problem, the researcher conducted qualitative descriptive method. The research interview could done in several places according to student capacity. The instrument of this research was interview and document testing. The population of this research was all of student’s English education State Islamic University Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan. The sample is 6 students taken from each class from seventh semester students of State Islamic University Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan. Data was collected by document testing and interview and analyzed by data reduction, data display and conclusion or verification. The research result showed the students vowels accuracy in pronouncing English words in English Department State Islamic University Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan in a word consist of vowels [i], [u], and [ɔ:]. There are several factors that truly influenced student’s mother tongue interference in pronouncing English vowels. Factors above truly felt by students when the researcher asked what they thingking about the factor that build as an easy question, then students easy to answer. The data about the factors collected by interview and vowels that interfered by students vowels accuracy analyse after analysed the document test result from the test and it showed as a tables and table to make the result easier to understand
