Abstract
The problems of this research was the student’ difficulties in answering final test of English subject. The students’ faced some difficulties to comprehend in speaking. The students’ faced difficult to making inference, detail information, locating reference, and understanding vocabulary in reading test. The students’ faced difficult to mastery grammar and vocabulary in writing test. This research had two formulation of the problems, namely, what are students’ difficulties in answering final test of English subject and what are the most dominant difficulties in English subject final test. The objective of this research is to identify the difficulties faced by students in answering final test of English subject and to identify the most dominant difficulties by students. This research was done in SMA IT Darul Hasan Padangsidimpuan. The source of the data was the second grade students of SMA IT Daarul Hasan Padangsidimpuan with the total 27 students. The kind of this research was qualitative research by using descriptive method. The instruments of collecting data were interview and document. Analysis of the data consisted of 5 steps from theory L.R Gay and Airasian ; they are data managing, reading/memoing, description, classifying, and interpreting. The result of the research, the researcher found the difficulties faced by students consisted of three skills, namely speaking, reading and writing.The students’ difficulties in speaking was in comprehension. there were 12 items in speaking test, there were 43 total incorrect answers in speaking test. The students’ difficulties in reading were in making inference, detail information, locating reference, and understanding vocabulary. There were 13 items in reading test, there were 51 total incorrect answers in reading test. The students difficulties in writing test. There were 5 items in writing test, there were 18 total incorrect answers in speaking test. It showed students could not answer the question correctly. From these three skills in English, reading test was the most dominant difficulties faced by students.
