Abstract

Polysemy, the phenomenon whereby a linguistic unit exhibits multiple distinct yet related meaning.Polysemy is very important for students, especially the students like songs. By knowing it, redears will more easily understand the meaning of the lyrics of the song, with the lyrics can express someone's feelings or thoughts. The purpose of this research is to know the types of polysemy and to describe the meaning of the polysemy of Maher Zain's selected song. In this study, the researcher reported all song lyrics as data. This research used library research. The data source is all the lyrics of the songs Thank You Allah . The data analysis used the following steps: prepare the data for analysis, read all the data, begin detailed analysis with a coding proses, use the coding process to generate a description of the setting, a final step in data analysis involves making an interpretation from the data, and conclusion. The results obtained in this study are described based on the type of polysemy which consists of three parts, namely (1) polysemy verb which consists of six data. (2) A polysemy noun consists of three data, and (3) polysemy adjectives consists of five data. The total amount of song lyric data that has been analyzed and contains polysemic meaning is fourteen data. So in this research, it can be concluded that lyrics of the song used many polysemy verbs.
