Abstract

The background of the problem in this research is students learning barriers in mathematics at SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan. The result or learning is the key to success of students in understanding mathematics. Based on the background of the problem, the purpose of this research is to find out what are the factors that hinder students in learning mathematics. The formulation of the problem in this thesis is how the student learning outcomes at SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan and what are the internal and external factors thar hinder student learning in mathematics at SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research, with data collection methods with observation and interviews as well as documentation at SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan. This research was conducted in class X MIA. The primary while the secondary data of this study were mathematics teachers, school principas, student at SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan. Based on the result of the study concluded that student learning barriersi in SMA N 1 Panyabungan Selatan consist of internal factors and internal factors. Where internal factors are interest, motivation, intelligence, while external factors are family factors, environmental factors and community factors. Mathematics learning outcomes still need to be improved because there are still some students whose learning outcomes are good. Students need to understand mathematical concepts. Efforts need to be made to overcome student learning barriers in mathematics.
