Abstract

This research discusses about students’ ability in writing spoof text at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun. This research was done based on the fact of the student’s problem faced by students such as less motivation to write, students were not interested to write, very low lack of vocabulary, difficult to express or develop their own ideas and still mistakes in grammatical rules. In this research, the researcher focusses to find out the students’ ability in writing spoof text. The researcher formulated the specific question based on the problem above “How is students’ ability in writing spoof text of grade XI IPA-1 at SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun” and “What are students’ difficulties in writing spoof text at grade XI IPA-1 at SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun Padang Lawas. The goal of this research was to know and to describe the students’ ability in writing spoof text at grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun Padang Lawas. This research was conducted the method of the research by quantitative and using descriptive method. The researcher took the population was students at grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun Padang Lawas. The researcher took the total of students was 95 students in IPA department but the sample of this research was 32 students from the population. For collecting the data, the researcher used a test, it was essay writing test. Based on the result of the research above, the researcher found that the ability of the students writing spoof text at the eleventh grade SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun Padang Lawas was 65,35, it was categorized into enough category of the level ability. The researcher used the analysis data for this research is Mean Score, Z-test = 2,717 and Z-table = 1,64. Based on the difficulties of the students writing spoof text, it was known that the students’ difficulties in structure and grammar, still low or poor of vocabulary and students did not understand the generic structure writing of spoof text. Based on the explanation of the result, it was known that the hypothesis of the research was accepted, because the hypothesis of the research in students’ ability in writing spoof text at grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Ulu Barumun Padang Lawas was enough category.
