Abstract

This research is focuzed on analyzing lexical cohesion. Cohesion is generally described as having broad categories: “grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion”. These categories reflect a view on language that treats grammar and lexis along separate lines. Cohesion can be seen in a new overlapping lexical item. Formulation of the problems are what are the types of lexical cohesion and what are dominant lexical cohesion in English Translation of Al-Waqi’ah (Qs.1-30) from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman. The aims of this research is to find out types of lexical cohesion in English Translation of Al-Waqi’ah (Qs. 1-30) from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman, to find the dominant types of lexical cohesion in English Translation of Al-Waqi;ah (Qs. 1-30) from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman. This research used libraryresearch, the data is taken from English Translation of Al-Waqi’ah verse 1-30 from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman.The technique used in collecting data is documentation method because the researcher collected from the Al-Qur’an. The data collection used thefollowing steps: read all through the Qs. Al-Waqi’ah in English Translation verse 1-30 from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman, find thesentence that contained lexical cohesion, coding each sentence that contained lexical cohesion andanalyze the data are identifying the types of lexical cohesion according to Halliday and Hasan theory. The result of this research there are 20 sentences that have lexical cohesion in Al-Waqi’ah (Qs. 1-30) from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahman. From 20 sentences there are 11 items synonym or 55%, 2 items antonym or 10%, 1 item hyponym or 5%, and 6items repetition or 30%. It can be indicated that the dominanttypes oflexical cohesionin English Translation of Al-Waqi’ah (Qs. 1-30) from Al-Qur’an Ar-Rahmanis synonym.
