Abstract

This research is taken based on fact of the problems for students’ mastery in using conjunction. The researcher identified many problems such as students’ difficulties in learning English, students did not know conjunction well, students did not know how to use good sentences, mastery of vocabulary and grammar students was low. Finally the researcher interested in searching Students’ Mastery in Using Conjunction at Grade XI SMA N 1 Panyabungan Utara Kabupaten Mandailing Natal. The purpose of the research were to know Students’ Mastery in Using Conjunction at Grade XI SMA N 1 Panyabungan Utara Kabupaten Mandailing Natal. In this research, researcher used quantitative research with descriptive method. There were 40 students as sample of the research at grade XI students SMA N 1 Panyabungan Utara. In collecting data, the researcher used the instrument of the research like multiple choice test for students, the multiple choice test consist of 20 items. The researcher used Z test for analyzing data. Based on the result of research, researcher found that the mean score Students’ Mastery in Using Conjunction at Grade XI SMA N 1 Panyabungan Utara was enough ability, it was 57.38 category. Then, the hypothesis that Zcount = -3.87 was less than Ztable= 1.69 (Z count = -3.87 < Z table = 1.69) by significant level 0.05 the hypothesis is rejected by using Z- test. Because Z count = -3.87 < Z table = 1.69.
