Abstract

This research is intended to investigate the effect of Peer Feedback Technique on Students’ Writing Narrative Text Ability at XI Grade MAN Tapanuli Selatan. The problems that faced by students in writing narrative text were: 1) The students are lack on vocabulary, 2) The students are confused to write and did not how to express their writing, 3) The teachers did not have various technique in teaching writing, 4) Students have difficulty arranging a word in writing. The formulation of the problem in this research were: 1) How is the students’ writing narrative text ability before using peer feedback technique, 2) How is the students’ writing narrative text ability after using peer feedback technique, 3) Is there any significant effect of using peer feedback technique on students’ writing narrative text ability at XI grade MAN Tapanuli Selatan. The purpose of this research was to answer the formulation of the problem in this research. This research uses experimental quantitative method with pre-test and post-test design. The populations were all of the students at XI Grade MAN Tapanuli Selatan. The sample were XI MIA 1 as experimental class that consisted of 20 students and XI MIA 2 as control class that consisted of 20 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test in essay test form and analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) with T-test. The result of research showed that the mean score of experimental class was higher than the mean score of control class after using peer feedback technique. The mean score of experimental class in pre-test was 63.60 and the mean score of control class in pre-test was 62.35. Meanwhile, the mean score of experimental class in post-test after doing treatment by using peer feedback technique was 70.85 and the mean score of control class in post-test was 66.15. In addition, after doing T-test, the researcher found that the t-test value was sig (2-tailed) < 0.05 (0.017 < 0.05. Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that there was significant effect of using peer feedback technique on students’ writing narrative text ability at XI grade MAN Tapanuli Selatan.
