Abstract

This study was talked about the effect students’think aloud ability in speaking by usingthink aloud technique at MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan. Most of students did not haveexplanation think aloud abilityin speaking. Many students felt that think aloud ability in speaking is harder than other skills. First, speaking happened in real time. Second, speaking cannot be edited and revised. Furthermore, this was caused students were afraid to do mistakes, felt tremble, tight, and worried in speaking, have high anxiety, did not practiced it every day, and did not have. The objective of this research was the significant effect of think aloud technique to students’ think aloud abilityin speaking at grade XI MAN 1Padangsidimpuan. Solved the problem, the researcher conducted experimental research, by implementing think aloud technique. The researcher applied three tests in this research. The participant of this research was one class consists of 25 students. The instruments for collecting the data the researcher used test to analyze the score of students’ think aloud ability in speaking. Based on the research resulted, showed the think aloud mean score of the students. The first test in pretest was 51.2, the first test in posttest was 62, thesecond tests in pretest in think aloud ability in speaking was74, and the second test in posttest was 80. Therefore, the mean score in the second test was higher than the first test. It indicated that the application of think aloud technique improvement students’ think aloud ability in speaking.
