Abstract

This research concerned about the comparative study of students’ reading comprehension by using silent reading technique and loud reading technique. The formulation of the problem: Is there the different between silent reading technique and loud reading technique teaching on students’ reading comprehension text at grade XI SMA Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan? It intended to know the comparative both of these technique to students’ reading comprehension at grade XI sma negeri 8 padangsidimpuan. In this research, writer used quantitative method in the type of the experiment research. The population of the research was 111 students of the grade XI. Then, the sample of research was 51 students. Next, the researcher used test as instrument. The test is divided into pre-test and post-test about reading comprehension text were given to the respondent. To analysis the data, the writer used the formulation of ttest. After getting the data, the writer found that the calculation score of t0 was bigger than tt (5.51 > 2.68). It is meant that the hypothesis was accepted. It was concluded that there was a differences students’ reading comprehension by using silent reading technique and loud reading technique on students’ reading comprehension at grade XI SMA Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan.Then, based on the result had been obtained, mean score of the silent reading technique is higher than loud reading technique to students' reading comprehension (72.77 > 60.62). So, the implication of the research is the silent reading technique is better than loud reading technique to students’ reading comprehension at grade XI SMA Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan.
