Abstract
This research focused on an analysis of teacher’s interaction strategies in teaching English at grade X SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. The aim is to analyze teacher talk in classroom interaction based on Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) ) system which adapted from Moskowitz that consists of deals with feeling, praises or encourages, uses ides of student, asks question, gives information, corrects without rejection, gives direction, criticize students behavior, and communicates criticism. The purpose of this research were to know teacher’s interaction strategies in teaching English at grade X SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. The method of this research was qualitative research. Two teachers have been chosen. They were Mr. M with his class X-4 and Mrs. R with her class X-1. As the instrument for collecting the data the researcher used observation and interview. Technique of analyzing data was triangulation. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the teacher’s interaction strategies in teaching English at SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan which has been most done by teacher based on Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) system. They were: Asks question, gives direction, gives information, praises or encourages, jokes, deals with feeling, and criticizes student behavior.
