Abstract

This research discussed about students’ problem in pronunciation at grade VIII in SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan. The problems of the research are the students were low in pronouncing the English words and uninterested teaching media. As the result, the students felt difficult in pronunciation. The objective of this research was to know the improvement of the students’ pronunciation using animation film media at grade VIII in SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan. The method of this research was conducted by Classroom Action Research (CAR) with quantitative and qualitative approach. Classroom Action Research method was used to test and to see the improvement of students’ pronunciation using animation film media at grade VIII in SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan. The source of the data was taken in class VIII-9, there were 22 students. Collecting the data was done by using test. To analyze the data, the researcher used formulation of average score on students’ pronunciation. Based on the result of the research, researcher showed the description of the data was found that the mean score of vowels in pre-test were 60.45 and consonants were 54.09, the mean score of vowels in cycle 1 were 66.36 and consonants were 75.45, then the mean score of vowels in cycle 2 were 76.36 and consonants were 80.90. It can be concluded that the mean score of cycle 1 was higher than pre-test and cycle 2 was higher than cycle 1. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. It was concluded that using animation film media can improve students’ pronunciation. Finally, the researcher suggested using animation film media was affective to improve students’ pronunciation at grade VIII in SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan.
