Abstract

The objectives of this research are to 1) to describe students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text before using Look-Say method at the eight grade SMP N 4 Padangsidimpuan, 2) to describe students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text after using Look-Say method at the eight grade SMP N4 Padangsidimpuan, and 3) to examine the significant effect of students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at the eight grade SMP N 4 Padangsidimpuan. This research is a quantitative with experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design, experimental and control class. The population of the study was all students of class VIII SMP N 4 Padangsidimpuan, with a sample of 62 students divided into an experimental group (VIII-9, n = 31) and a control group (VIII- 10, n = 31). The data were collected through pre-test and post-test and analyzed by using SPSS v.26. The result of this research showed that the mean score of experimental class was higher than the mean score of control class after learning by using Look-Say. In addition, after doing T-test this research found that mean score of pre-test before using Look-Say was 67.87. Then students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text after using Look-Say method at the eight grade SMP N 4 Padangsidimpuan the mean score is 84.00. After calculated the t-test, the researcher found the result of this research that was the t-count t-table (7.762> 1.670), which means Ha, is accepted. It can be concluded that there is significant effect of Look-Say Method on Students’ Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Text at Eight Grade SMP N 4 Padangsidimpuan.
