Abstract

This Research described about low mastery of students paragraph writing. It was solved by choosing Picture Media. The problems of students in Paragraph writing were: (1) lack of vocabulary (2) lack of knowledge in structure and grammar (3) able to develop the idea and difficult to connect one idea to others idea (4) feel the writing activity is bored. The purpose of this research is to know whether there is the effect of Picture Media on students’ paragraph writing mastery at grade VIII SMPN 1 Sipirok. The method that is used in this research was experimental research. Two classes were chosen randomly as the sample. They were VIII 1 as experimental class that consisted of 30 students and VIII 2 as control class that consisted of 30 students. It was conducting normality and homogeneity test. The data was derived from pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the mean score of experimental class after using Picture Media was higher than control class. Mean score of experimental class before using picture media was 62.91 and mean score after using picture media was 66.89. The effect of picture media on students’ paragraph writing mastery at grade VIII SMPN 1 Sipirok was 2.924 with tcount was higher than ttable (2.924> 1.67155) it meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. There was the effect of Picture Media on students’ paragraph writing mastery at grade VIII SMPN 1 Sipirok. Key Words: Picture Media, Paragraph Writing
