Abstract

This research described about the lack of vocabulary mastery of the students. It was expected that can be solved by using Picture Media. The objective of this research is to know whether the use of Picture Media can effect on students’ mastery in vocabulary where in this research focused on noun, adjective, verb and preposition. The research design applied was experimental research. The population of this research was the grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Batangtoru Tapanuli Selatan and the sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. Two classes were chosen randomly as the sample. They were XI-1 as the control class that consisted of 25 students and XI-2 as the experimental class that also consisted of 25 students. This research used test as the instrument to collecting the data. The data analysed by using statistical analysis by SPSS V.26 in order to know the significant difference of the students’ achievement both in pre-test and post-test. From the data analysis obtained that the score of tcount was higher than ttable by applying 5% level of significance and df was 48 where, tcount > t table (2.157 ˃ 1.6772). Therefore, the use of Picture Media is effective enough on increasing students’ vocabulary mastery at the grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Batangtoru Tapanuli Selatan.
