Abstract
The objective of this research is to show the effect of Mnemonic technique on students' vocabulary mastery at SMP N 1 Batang Angkola. Mnemonic technique is one of the best ways to help students master vocabulary. This research is a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. The population was all class VIII students of SMP N 1 Batang Angkola. The sample was class VIII-E (28 students) as the experimental class and class VIII-A (28 students) as the control class and the total was 56 students, selected using random sampling. The research found that Mnemonic technique has significantly affected the vocabulary mastery. It can be presented by the mean score of the experiment class (63.93) is higher than of the control class (61.07) by applying 0.05 level of significance. Based on the T-test analysis, the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted in which tcount is greater than ttable (5.667 > 2.778). So, there is significant effect of mnemonic techniques on students' vocabulary mastery at SMP N 1 Batang Angkola.
