Abstract
This research was intended to investigate the effect of Read, Encode, Annotate and Ponder (REAP) strategy to analytical exposition text comprehension of Students SMA Swasta Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan. The problems of students in this research were: (1) The students are not able to comprehend the text well when they read because they have lack of vocabulary (2) The students still have difficulties in interpreting words and some important aspects such as, main idea, structure and specific language features (3) The conventional strategy applied by the teacher is less appropriate in comprehending analytical exposition text. The research was experimental research with pre-test and post-test design. The population were all of the grade XI students of SMA Swasta Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan in academic year 2018/2019. The sample were XI PI 2 as experimental class that consisted of 26 students and XI PI 1 as control class that consisted of 26 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test in multiple choice form and analyzed by using t-test formula. The finding showed that there was difference mean-score before and after using REAP Strategy. Mean-score of experimental class before using REAP strategy was 37.68 and mean-score after using REAP was 74.68. Based on calculation of T- test, the researcher found that tcount = 4.34 and ttable = 1.67591. It means tcount > ttable (4.34>1.67591) alternative hyphotesis (ha) was accepted. So, there was significant effect of using REAP Strategy to annalytical exposition text comprehension at grade XI of SMA Swasta Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan.
