Abstract
This research discusses about the effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning Model on students' present perfect tense mastery at IX grade of SMPN 10 Padangsidimpuan. The students’ problems in this research are: 1) The students are not interested in learning English, 2) The students do not understand the meaning of vocabulary in the book, 3) The students do not understand the usage of present perfect tense, 4) The students do not master the formula of present perfect tense. The purposes of this research are to examine the students’ present perfect tense mastery before learning by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning Model, to examine the students’ present perfect tense mastery after learning by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning Model, and to examine whether there is significant effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning Model to the students’ present perfect tense mastery. The kind of this research is experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The population of this research is all the IX grade students at SMPN 10 Padangsidimpuan. The sample of this research is the grade IX-2 students that concist of 20 students. Furthermore, the used instruments in this research are multiple choice tests. The researcher used Product Moment formula to validate the instruments and Cronbach’s Alpha formula to reliable the instruments. The researcher used t-test formula to count the hypothesis then found that the t count is 21.20 and t table is 2.02. The result shows that t count is higher than t table which means Ha is acceptted and H0 is rejected. Because Ha is accepted, the result of this research shows that there is significant effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning Model on students’ present perfect tense mastery at IX grade of SMPN 10 Padangsidimpuan.
