Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe how the students’ learning environment and motivation to learn English are and to find out whether there is a significant correlation between learning environment and motivation to learn English at the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan. The type of this research is quantitative research with correlational type. The population of this research is 427 students from the eleventh grade of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan. This research took 23 students as samples, by using random sampling technique. The instruments of collecting data are questionnaire for learning environment and questionnaire for motivation to learn English. From the result of the analysis correlational technique used R- product moment with “Very high” category. From the result of data analysis, it was found that the mean score of students on learning environment was categorized into “Very good” category and English learning motivation with “Good” category. Apart from that, regarding the result of the hypothesis in this research, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is “Accepted”. In addition, related to the results of data analysis, there is a significant correlation between learning environment and learning motivation with T count is the higher than T table. This means that the learning environment has a significant correlation with English learning motivation at eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan with a “Very good” category.
