Abstract

This research focused on the affect of using English song on students’ pronunciation at Grade XI SMA N 1 Batangtoru .The students difficulties with the pronunciation of short and long vowels are that they were shy and afraid that when they spoke English, their friends would laugh because they used a Bataknese accent, they had low motivation to study short and long vowels, and they also lacked pronunciation practice. The purpose of this research is to know how the students pronunciation before using english song, how students pronunciation after using english song and is there any significant effect of using english song on students pronunciation. This research used quantitative approach by using experimental method. The population were all the XI SMA N 1 Batangtoru. The sample were XI- 1 as a control class consisted of 26 students and XI-3 as an experimental class consisted of 26 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test in word and analyzed by using independent sample T-test. The result of this research showed that mean score of experimental research was higher than mean score of control class after using English song . It means English song significantly affects students pronunciation at grade XI SMA N 1 Batangtoru.
