Abstract
This research discusses about the correlation between simple present tense mastery and procedure text writing mastery at the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan. The problems of this research are the students still got confused or did not know how they start to write and they got difficulty to arrange sentences in procedure text. The aims of this research were to know the students’ simple present tense mastery and procedure text writing mastery, and to find out the correlation between simple present tense mastery and procedure text writing mastery. This research is a correlation research with the population was the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan. The sample of this research is 22 students. The researcher used multiple choices test for simple present tense and essay test for writing procedure text as the instrument for collecting data. The data were analyzed statistically by using product moment formula technique through SPSS. The result of this research found that there was significant correlation between simple present tense mastery and procedure text writing mastery at the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan in very high category
