Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of understanding of students' mathematical concepts in Padang Bolak State Madrasah Tsunami, especially in the two-variable linear equation system. It is also seen from the low scores of students' test results. The learning done at the school only uses the lecture method so that it makes students bored and lacks understanding of the material delivered by the mathematics teacher. Students also do not have tutors to study the system of two-variable linear equations, for this study using Algebrator Software media which can be used as student tutors in learning the two-variable linear equation system. students in the material system of two-variable linear equations in Padang Bolak State Islamic Elementary School. Algebrator software is a tool that can give students not only answers, but also all the steps needed to get to the solution and a full explanation of each. By using Algebrator Software, students can find their own concepts from the material learned and build knowledge, solve math problems quickly and accurately in learning. From the results of the answers and steps that have been available, these students will be easier to understand the concept of learning and if they are not understanding they can also look back at the steps above. This study uses quantitative experimental methods. The population in this study is the eighth grade students in Padang Bolak State Madrasah Tsunami, amounting to 228. The sample in this study was taken by purposive sampling technique, which is the sampling technique with certain considerations. The sample in the experimental group is class VIII1 as many as 36 students and control group VIII2 as many as 36 students. The experimental group was given using Algebrator Software learning media while the control group used conventional learning models. Data on students' concept understanding was taken using pretest and posttest with essays in the form of tests. Based on the results of the study has a concept understanding hypothesis testing data, the research hypothesis can be seen that thitung = 60.24 abel t table = 1.6669 with a significance level of 0.05. Based on the results of these values, it can be concluded that there is an effect of the use of Algebrator Software on students' understanding of concepts in the material system of linear equations of two variables in class VIII of Padang Bolak State Madrasah Tsunami
