Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the students vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi. The research was applied quantitative research. The sample was 23 students from class VII-1 of SMP Negeri 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi. The instrument of the research was test, that consisted of 30 questions. The technique of collecting data in this research were: the researcher distributed the paper of the test to students, the researcher explained what the students to do, the researcher gave time to answer the test in 30 minutes, the students answered the question, the researcher collected the students’ paper test, the researcher checked the answer of the students and researcher calculated the students research result test, then checked the students answer based on the indicators of writing test about descriptive text and calculated the result based on the criterion of the data such mean score, median score and mode score, at the last of analysis interpreted the result in form of tables. The result of the research showed the lowest score was 30 and the highest score was 93.3, the total score from 23 students was 1616, mean score was 70.26, median score was 76.25 and mode score was 88.875. The interpretation of students writing score were 10 students classified into very good category, 6 students were classified into good category, 2 students was classified into enough category, 1 students was classified into less category and 4 students was classified into falled category. The students result of writing descriptive text was categorized into good category, it showed from the students mean score from 23 students was 70.26.
