Abstract
This research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes, especially Mathematics in class VIII Muarasipongi 1 Middle School. Students cannot interpret and apply the material concept of circle tangents so that students get low results. While the purpose of this study is to find out an overview of student understanding, knowing in which part of the student has a lot of errors, and knowing the factors that cause students to experience errors. This research is a qualitative research with research subjects as class VIII Muarasipongi 1 Public Middle School. The data sources in this study were students and teachers of Muarasipongi 1 Public Middle School. Then the data collection instruments used are tests, documentation, and interviews. The technique of ensuring the validity of the data used by researchers is to make time for attendance, observation persistence, triangulation, and peer examination. Errors experienced by students in learning tangent circle material are conceptual errors, strategy errors, sign errors, patternless errors, and calculating errors. Of all these points there are still many students who experience errors. Factors that influence student learning errors are factors that originate within students and from outside students. Factors originating from within the students are the ability to understand the material tangents of the circle that are still lacking, the lack of readiness of students to learn, lack of student will, interest in students who are still minimal and learning motivation is still low. Efforts that can be done to overcome student learning errors are to identify errors experienced by students and then provide remedial or repair programs.
